Take Precautions to Keep Your Account Information Safe and Secure

E-Mail Fraud

In June, an email message was sent to some members that appeared to come from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) requesting information about your “Federal Credit Union account.” The email encouraged recipients to click on a link to update account information. The link landed on a fraudulent web site that appeared to be a NCUA site.

This type of email is called “phishing” and it enables criminals to capture personal information from a trusted source; namely you. Thankfully, your Credit Union was able to detect this activity and would like to share with you a few steps that you can take to further protect your information:

  • Do not respond to any email requesting personal information. FIGFCU and most other organizations will not request this information via email as it is not a secure environment to transmit sensitive information.

  • Do not click on links or respond to email from sources that are unfamiliar to you. Whenever in doubt, contact the organization to determine the legitimacy of the email.

  • Monitor your accounts closely. Notify us and any other appropriate agencies immediately if you notice discrepancies.

Your Credit Union uses state-of-the-art hardware and software in an effort to ensure your information remains safe. Your assistance will help us to deliver an even higher level of security to protect you and your family.
