E-Mail Fraud

A recent email was sent to our members, claiming to be "Credit Union Security", etc... If you receive such emails IMMEDIATELY DELETE!!! Farmers Insurance Group Federal Credit Union will NEVER ask you to verify anything via email or send you to a website that asks for you to verify passwords or other information.

Another message was sent to some members that appeared to come from the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), and the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) requesting information. The email encouraged recipients to click on a link to update account information. The link landed on a fraudulent web site that appeared to be the actual site.

This type of email is called “phishing” and it enables criminals to capture personal information from a trusted source; namely you. Thankfully, your Credit Union was able to detect this activity and would like to share with you a few steps that you can take to further protect your information:

• Do not respond to any email requesting personal information. FIGFCU and most other organizations will not request this information via email as it is not a secure environment to transmit sensitive information.
  
  
• Do not click on links or respond to email from sources that are unfamiliar to you. Whenever in doubt, contact the organization to determine the legitimacy of the email.
  
  
• Monitor your accounts closely. Notify us and any other appropriate agencies immediately if you notice discrepancies.
  
  
• Never give your account information to anyone over the web.
